INTRODUCING COHORT IV
An Ocean of Opportunity
Spanning a wide range of sectors and impact areas, Cohort IV’s five teams demonstrate that countless opportunities exist to meet humanity’s economic and resilience needs while supporting ocean health. Through five months of targeted BlueSwell programming, these startups rode the waves of early entrepreneurship and are on track to generate lasting change.

atdepth MRV
atdepth MRV is building a highly scalable, GPU-based, data-assimilating modeling system to provide cost-effective Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) for marine Carbon Dioxide Removal (mCDR). Our innovative approach leapfrogs traditional CPU-based approaches and enables accurate, real-time, continuous MRV for delay-free carbon credit issuance as well as operational scalability to a $1T USD mCDR industry.
Bluemvmt
Bluemvmt is the world's first subsea monitoring platform powered by machine learning. Although the challenges to protect and restore the ocean are steep, we are resolute in our commitment to overcome them. It will take an actual blue movement of all stakeholders to achieve it. We aspire to play an important role in providing the data and insights required to solve the problems the ocean has sustained, while always remaining in awe of her many mysteries.
DetoXyFi
Waterborne diseases cause 3.4 million deaths annually. DetoXyFi has a patent-pending, low-cost, biodegradable, rapidly deployable water filter made from waste wood to provide clean drinking water for disaster relief, household water filtration etc - providing 10x the protection at 40% the cost of alternative technologies.
Marinas Bio
We use cellular agriculture to cultivate seafood delicacies to improve quality and consistency, and to reduce production time. Cell-based cultivation can (i) reduce up to 98% of greenhouse gas emissions, (ii) conserve keystone species in aquatic ecosystems which uptake 2.6 bn tons of carbon per year, and (iii) improve animal welfare.
Vycarb
Vycarb is empowering the blue economy with tools to monitor and mitigate the impacts of climate change in the oceans. With an automated hardware-software integration that monitors real-time changes in carbon chemistry, and modifies that chemistry to restore the oceans’ natural carbon balance, Vycarb’s system can be used by ocean companies around the world to not only adapt to climate change, but contribute to global-scale climate solutions.
2023-2024
How are we riding the waves of opportunity?
Just like other program alumni, these five teams understand that achieving a better future for all means supporting marine and aquatic ecosystems rather than working against them. These founders are catching waves at the intersection of innovation and conservation, revealing new opportunities in bluetech for positive impact.
"Taking action for the ocean is a crucial element of the work we do at the New England Aquarium. With so many brilliant minds creating solutions to support ocean health, we are excited to work with these start-ups as they expand the blue economy and promote responsible ocean use."
– Emiley Lockhart, New England Aquarium
"One of the least visible but most gratifying experiences for the founders is the collaboration and camaraderie they have with each other during the once-monthly in-person weeks in Cambridge. These are some of the most dynamic companies we have seen and I look forward to watching them support each other in delivering real impact for the oceans and real value to all of their stakeholders."
– Ed Cesare, SeaAhead
